McCarthy Escalates Tensions With China
In a surprising turn of events, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is now expected to meet with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen angering China further. McCarthy will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen in California instead of Taiwan in hopes that it will soften the blow to China.
According to Newsmax, McCarthy and Tsai are expected to hold a brief meeting at the Ronald Reagan Library in April where she will then also travel to New York and Central America.
A senior Taiwanese official explained to news sources, “We shared some intelligence about what the Chinese Communist party is recently up to and the kinds of threats they pose.”
The official also explained that China is “not in a good situation right now.”
As you already know, the United States and China have had increased tensions recently over the spy balloon which was flown over the United States before being shot down by President Biden. This new meeting between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Taiwan’s president will only make matter worse.
Additionally, China considers Taiwan to be a part of its territory and has been increasing its military presence around the island. The United States has expressed support for Taiwan and has increased its military presence in the region, which has angered China.
