Pelosi Extends Voting Dates
As tensions regarding the voting system has continued to anger both sides of American politics, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has just decided to extend proxy voting once again until August 12th because of the threat of COVID-19.
According to the Washington Examiner, Pelosi decided to extend proxy voting because of the advisement of House sergeant-at-arms on Friday. Pelosi’s new decision allows lawmakers have their colleagues vote for them if they are physically unable to appear in the House of Representatives themselves. This new policy was first made when the pandemic stated and Republicans don’t favor it.
Republicans have said this new proxy voting system is unconstitutional and is easily able to be abused however it appears the Speaker Pelosi simply doesn’t care.
While many Democrats know that this proxy voting system is ONLY to be used for pandemic-related reasons, they still use it to skip out from work without letting it affect their voting records.
It seems like top Democrats like House Speaker Pelosi and President Biden are still using the excuse of the pandemic to push new rules that have little or nothing to do with COVID-19 at all.
