VIDEO: New Trump 2024 Challenger
On Sunday, Asa Hutchinson, who was previously the Governor of Arkansas, declared his intention to run against Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
In transcript provided by Newsweeks, Hutchinson said, “I have made a decision, and my decision is I’m going to run for president of the United States.”
According to sources, the ex-governor confirmed that he will formally announce his candidacy in Arkansas later this month. He expressed that his inspiration to run stems from his belief that voters desire a presidential nominee who embodies the finest qualities of America.
Hutchinson stated, “The reason, as I’ve traveled the country for six months, I hear people talk about the leadership of our country. I’m convinced that people want leaders that appeal to the best of America and not simply appeal to our worst instincts. That inspires me when I see everyday Americans just saying, ‘Give us good leadership. Give us common sense, consistent conservatism and optimism about our great country. That inspires me, and I believe I can be that kind of leader for the people of America.”

As a politician who has occasionally expressed disapproval of Trump’s actions, Hutchinson is perceived as a conventional conservative option to Trump, who was in office from 2017 to 2021 and was defeated by President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
The ex-governor has consistently advocated for the Republican Party to distance itself from Trump. He remarked in May of last year that the former president should not dictate the party’s future. Furthermore, during a CNN interview in November, he criticized Trump for causing disorder within the party.
