McCarthy’s Attempt To Remove Trump
In a stunning turn of events, The New York Times is claiming that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other top Republican leaders privately discussed the plan to ask former President Donald Trump to resign if he was impeached over the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protest.
According to The Hill, McCarthy has since come out and denied that he ever discussed asking Trump to resign with any other top Republican official.
It is alleged that on January 10th, McCarthy told Republican House leadership that he was going to privately ask Trump to resign if he was impeached.
The NY Times is claiming that McCarthy said, “What he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend that and nobody should defend it. I think this will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign.”
Mark Bednar spokesman for Kevin McCarthy has denied all of these claims.
“He did not say that,” Bednar simply said in a statement.
If what the New York Times is claiming is true McCarthy could be in deep trouble with the Republican Party especially if Trump runs for re-election again in 2024.
