McConnell Crawls Back To Trump
Not long ago, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said that Trump-endorsed Republicans who won their primary races “lacked quality” and even made negative comments about them losing the midterm elections.
Now it appears that McConnell has had to eat his own words and had to hold a fundraiser in Kentucky for several Trump-backed Senate candidates including Mehmet Oz (Pennsylvania), Rep. Ted Budd (North Carolina), and Herschel Walker (Georgia).
According to the Epoch Times, McConnell condemned Trump’s candidates and said, “I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different, they’re statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome.”
McConnell then reversed course and the Republican Party has a good chance of winning the Senate with Oz, Budd and Walker instead.
McConnell stated, “I do this every August. I had a different set of candidates than last August. This event was scheduled about six weeks ago. I pick out three of our candidates every summer that I think have the best shot at winning and invite them. And I picked these three because I thought they were in critical states and had a good chance of winning.”
Looks like even if McConnell isn’t happy with Trump’s candidates he’s going to have to support them no matter what.
