Top Republican Sabotages Trump’s 2024 Run
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has just caused major strife within the Republican Party after he claimed that the upcoming 2022 midterm elections shouldn’t be a “rehash” of the 2020 presidential election.
This appears to be a direct shot by McConnell targeted to former President Donald Trump.
According to Newsweek, McConnell’s comments came after reporters asked him if the Republican Party was “embracing” Trump after the January 6th Capitol riot.
Republicans know they have to regain control of the House and Senate in 2022 but there is controversy within the GOP over fears of election integrity which was sparked by Trump following the presidential election.
CNN’s Manu Raju asked McConnell if he was “concerned at all, comfortable, with your party embracing the former president whom you said was morally responsible for the January 6 attack?”
“Well, I do think we need to be talking about the future and not the past,” McConnell responded.
“I think the American people are focusing on this administration, what it’s doing to the country,” McConnell continued. “And it’s my hope that the ’22 election will be a referendum on the performance of the current administration, not a rehash of suggestions about what may have happened in 2020.”
