Republicans Disqualified From Election
In a shocking turn of events, it has just been learned that two of the top Republican candidates who are hoping to run for Governor in the state of Michigan are now ineligible to run after they failed to submit enough valid signatures to be placed on the ballot.
According to Fox News, the GOP has lost two of their most important candidates Chief James Craig of the Detroit Police Department and businessman Perry Johnson who were hoping to challenge Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
To be eligible to run in an election, Gubernatorial candidates must submit 15,000 valid signatures to be placed on the state’s ballot. According to the state bureau the two Republican candidates were victimized by petitioners “who obtained nothing but invalid or otherwise unusable signatures.”
Perry Johnson said in a statement, “Michigan’s petition process is fatally flawed because it easily allows criminals to victimize candidates for public office and their thousands of supporters who legitimately sign petitions. We must bring quality to the petition process by allowing campaigns a mechanism to compare signatures that are gathered by circulators with signatures on the Qualified Voter File to ensure their legitimacy.”
Johnson added, “Criminals can commit fraud for money or by purposely infiltrating a victimized campaign with illegitimate signatures in a Machiavellian attempt by the opposing party to later have them removed from the ballot. Unfortunately, the signatures provided to campaigns cannot currently be checked until after their submission to the Secretary of State. This needs to change, immediately.”
